How It Really Feels When Your Parent Gives Up Custody Of You
Divorce and breakups often lead to nasty custody battles, if children are involved. It's situations like these that truly bring out the ugly side of people. What's even more sad is that sometimes there is no custody battle at all. Some parents tap out of their responsibilities and surrender their custody entirely. Children suffer the most when this happens. These confessions are from people who had a parent completely opt out of custody.

Such a scary thought.

My mom eagerly gave up custody of me when I was 5.. I'm afraid she's going to leave my younger siblings with her creep of a husband.

You just never know sometimes.

I spent the last 13 years resenting my dad for not even fighting for custody of my siblings and I. I learned that the only reason he didn't try, was because he was afraid my mom would kill herself if she lost us.

Wow.

My mother gave up custody of her kids without a blink of an eye, but fought to keep the dogs. Funny how she wonders why I don't like spending time with her...

It's hard not to care sometimes.

I miss my dad so much. However, I’m so mad at him too because he gave up custody and my mom has full custody of me. It’s been years and I still wonder if he misses me at all.

My birth family isn't all so loving and supportive. Recently my mom gave up custody of me and a friend's family took me in. If it wasn't for them, I'd be in trouble.

Sounds like someone is remembering what they want to remember.

I can't even enjoy Mother's Day with my own son. I have to pretend to celebrate it with my mom, who gave up custody of me when I was 1. She's delusional and thinks she was "always there for me!"
